I saw my brother Scott a couple of weekends ago for the first time since Christmas. He gave me a big hug and said, “How’s it goin’, Sis?”
“I can’t complain,” I said with a half-smile. “I mean, I could.” Both corners of my mouth perked up. “It just wouldn’t do me any good.”
And that’s how I feel about worries. Sure, I could worry, but it wouldn’t do me any good. You see, complaints often point to the past or at least to something beyond our control. Worries focus on the future. But what about now? Why would I ruin a perfectly happy brother-sister reunion by diving into problems? Don’t get me wrong. I’m positive I’ve complained and worried myself into some perfectly miserable moments. But for now—I see no reason to spoil the present.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:34
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
When life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate, when life is bitter, say thank you and grow.
